About Yerba Buena Island

Hart Howerton, a New York- and San Francisco-based design firm, oversaw this resort-like collection of buildings, which offers something for everyone. The Bristol is condominium living in a hillside setting; the Flats are single-floor residences in a series of boutique buildings; and the Townhomes are row houses with an island vibe. Each is architecturally distinct while also clearly part of a singular vision. Throughout, design follows the natural landscape, blurs the division between inside and out, and maximizes the views of San Francisco and the Bay Area.

A former military base and naval station, Yerba Buena Island has history in spades. It also has 72 acres of green space, five miles of walking trails, a protected beach, and some of the best views of the Bay Area. It’s a natural paradise that also features easy access to San Francisco, Oakland, and Treasure Island, so you’re never far from farmers markets overflowing with produce; coffee shops, wine bars, and restaurants to satisfy your cravings; and museums, art galleries, and performance halls to get your culture fix.

Development firm Wilson Meany tapped two different interior design firms for the 266 residences, which range from studio apartments to stand-alone five-bedroom homes. Edmonds + Lee created a sense of warmth and comfort at The Bristol, where condominiums offer generous layouts, floor-to-ceiling windows, and natural materials and textures. For the Flats and the Townhomes, Meyer Davis brought a level of elegance and an emphasis on indoor-outdoor living. Top-of-the-line features include Arclinea cabinets, Sub-Zero, Wolf, and Miele appliances in the kitchens, and Carrara marble and Dornbracht fixtures in the spa-like baths.

The setting itself, with lush nature at the doorstep and panoramic views from the Walter Hood-designed Hilltop Park, is reason enough to decamp to Yerba Buena Island and never leave. Then there’s the sprawling Island Club by Aidlin Darling Design. The 10,000-square-foot space provides an opportunity for solo R&R time or a place to gather. There are areas for fitness, including a weight and cardio room, a yoga and stretching studio, and an outdoor pool, as well as indoor and outdoor lounges for unwinding. And then, of course, there’s San Francisco and all it has to offer, an eight-minute ferry ride away.
