Designed by Clinton and Russell, The Apthorp fills the block between Broadway and West End Avenue and 78th and 79th Streets. The Italian Renaissance Revival building is known for its iron gates, which broadcast its name to passersby and keep the landscaped courtyard private.
Living in The Apthorp feels like owning a piece of New York City history. The layout of each apartment is unique and calls to mind the era of formal spaces within the home. But the apartments, many redesigned by BP Architects in recent years, also feature modern touches, including walk-in closets, lighting controls, and automated audio-video systems.
A recent renovation brought the building a 6,500-square-foot amenity space, which includes a spa and fitness center, an entertainment suite, and a children’s playroom and craft center. All four lobbies are attended by building staff, as are the Broadway and West End Avenue gates. Residents also have access to private parking.
