Few architectural firms have left their mark like Foster + Partners. In London alone, as masterminds behind the “Gherkin” skyscraper, the Millennium Bridge, and the British Museum’s Great Court, they have defined the face of evolving architecture. In contrast to the brick-built Battersea Power Station, Koa at Electric Boulevard offers a fresh, contemporary feel, with lashings of glass to bring in natural light and capitalize on the condominiums’ riverside setting. There is a sense of flow throughout the apartments; the rolling design of the exterior is followed by the interiors, with elegantly curved walls making for distinctive, characterful living spaces.
In the past few years, the neighborhood around Battersea Power Station has seen sweeping regeneration, evolving into an exquisite entertainment district on the southern bank of the Thames. It is replete with riverside bars and eateries, a brewery, a nine-acre riverside park, and a cinema set under the Victorian rail arches—not to mention a slew of new luxury residences. At the heart of it all is the iconic power station itself, designed in the 1930s by Giles Gilbert Scott and now reawakened as a high-end shopping mall inhabited by luxe brands like Ralph Lauren, TAG Heuer, and Boss. Two freshly opening London Underground stations—Battersea Power Station and Nine Elms—ensure the neighborhood is connected with the rest of London, while on-site gardens and nearby sprawling Battersea Park, with its boating lake and Pump House Gallery, offer tranquility in spades.
Koa at Electric Boulevard is the product of Foster + Partners through and through, with the architects also taking the helm for the interior design. While all 204 residences possess a sophisticated, modernist sensibility, two distinct palettes are available. “Dawn” has a crisp, fresh dynamic, with white kitchen cabinetry, polished grey quartz countertops, and bathrooms with light grey and matte white porcelain. Residences in the “Dusk” palette command a moodier presence, with charcoal grey cabinetry and dark grey porcelain in the bathrooms. Both styles are fitted with high-end Siemens, Bosch, and Zanussi appliances.
Koa residents have access to the sky lounge on the 14th and 15th floors of Battersea Roof Gardens, featuring a private cinema, work areas and meeting rooms, lounges and dining rooms with awe-inspiring views of the London skyline, a gaming area with pool table, and a cocktail bar. From the sky lounge, you can ascend to the gorgeously undulating Battersea Roof Gardens—envisioned by LDA Design in collaboration with James Corner of New York High Line fame—bursting with planted borders and picnic and barbecue areas and serving up 360-degree views of London.
