About 150 Charles Street
Designing on the site of a former warehouse, the architects at COOKFOX created a building that would honor the location’s history. The grid of that warehouse remains part of the design of 150 Charles Street, with the warehouse bays mapping onto present-day townhomes. The architects were as thoughtful about fitting the design into the surrounding neighborhood as they were about incorporating history, and the result is a building that steps back gracefully from the street.
The West Village is an iconic New York neighborhood, known for its charming and infinitely walkable cobblestone streets, historic townhomes, and upscale-but-Bohemian vibe. This is a place to people-watch from one of the neighborhood’s many cafes, bars, and restaurants. The area, bounded by Christopher Street and 14th Street, Greenwich Avenue, and the Hudson River, also affords easy access to Washington Square Park, Hudson River Park, and the High Line, an elevated greenway that stretches from the Whitney Museum of Art to the multiuse Hudson Yards in Midtown.
Alan Wanzenberg Design oversaw the interiors of the 91-unit building, notable for their floor-to-(high)-ceiling windows, many offering views of the Hudson River. An emphasis on allowing in natural light aligns with the architecture’s focus on biophilia—the connection between people and their environment.
From the 30,000 square feet of landscaped green space to the 3,000-square-foot fitness center, the 75-foot lap pool to the entertainment lounge, 150 Charles offers amenities for all occupants in all seasons. Beyond the building’s doors are the many public green spaces lining the Hudson River.
