By: Wendy Helfenbaum

Beyond adding square footage, floor-to-ceiling windows, and custom cabinetry, luxury developers in Vancouver are going one step further these days, seeking to lure buyers with resort-like amenities. Here are seven condominium developments whose over-the-top, unique perks are setting them apart in a competitive market.

Concord Pacific’s Metrotown

Featuring a pet grooming room, outdoor work pods, an indoor bike loop, and a dedicated cycling elevator, this development in Burnaby is a shoo-in for active, outdoorsy types. There’s an on-site gear room where residents can tinker with their bicycles or other equipment, plus a 66,000-square-foot “Sky Park,” complete with a tea house, minigolf, poolside barrel saunas, a yoga lawn, a labyrinth garden, and an illuminated outdoor running track.

In addition to a neofuturistic facade created by Danish architect Bjarke Ingels that gives off art-installation vibes, this 59-story waterfront development has plenty of perks, including an 82-foot-long heated rooftop pool, a golf simulator, a 10,000-square-foot fitness facility, electric charging stations, a fleet of BMWs, and Canada’s fastest elevators, which zoom upwards and downwards at up to 1,600 feet per minute.

TESORO by Concert

This 91-residence luxury condominium building in South False Creek feels every bit like a vacation destination, thanks to an inviting waterfront fireside lounge and European-style spa with hot and cold therapeutic plunge pools, a steam room, and a sauna. There’s also a play area and an urban garden with fresh herbs, should homeowners need their mint or basil fix before cooking up something scrumptious in the communal outdoor kitchen.

The Paramount

This 15-story Richmond development by Keltic Canada boasts more than 12,000 square feet of amenities that include a lifestyle concierge and a spa. There’s also an e-sports gaming room, a McLaren Racing simulator, and a screening room, plus a fitness center and steam room. Residents can also access a whisky and wine tasting room and a private guest suite that can be reserved for visiting friends or families.

Alberni by Kengo Kuma

With its unique curved structure designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, this 43-story development includes an on-site art gallery, a wine tasting room, a soundproof listening room for music lovers, and a lush moss garden. A full fitness complex includes a gym and an indoor swimming pool.
