At $20M, 130 William Penthouse Sets Financial District Record

By: LX Collection

Designed inside and out by acclaimed architect David Adjaye and his namesake firm, 130 William is a new icon in lower Manhattan’s skyline, with dramatic arched windows and a cast-concrete facade worthy of Gotham City. Penthouse 65, which just went into contract for the full asking price of $20 million, is the priciest residence to sell in the Financial District this year and will command $4,287 per square foot, the highest-ever price per square foot in the neighborhood.

The home spans a full floor near the building’s apex and features 2,312 square feet of outdoor space, which includes private loggias and a terrace, for luxurious indoor-outdoor living—all at nearly 800 feet above the ground. The residence’s entertaining spaces are made exceptional by the building’s arched windows and sumptuous materials. For example, the fireplace in the corner great room is framed by walnut millwork and an elegant floating Salvatori Nero Marquina marble hearth.

In the heart of the home, a gallery blends seamlessly with the kitchen, dining area, and family room. The kitchen sports bespoke details like Pedini Italian textured blackened oak cabinetry, Salvatori Pietra Cardosa marble countertops and backsplash hand-selected from Tuscany, and oil-rubbed bronze fixtures designed by Adjaye. Thermador and Gaggenau appliances, including a vented hood range, elevate the function with form.

The corner master bedroom opens onto a loggia and features a dressing room and a windowed ensuite bathroom with luxurious marbles and a carved freestanding stone soaking tub. The home’s three secondary bedrooms are on the opposite side of the residence, and have easy access to the three additional full bathrooms. A media room with a wet bar, which opens onto an expansive terrace, can be converted into a fifth bedroom.

The Neighborhood

Over the past two decades, the Financial District has been transformed into a bustling destination where residents rub shoulders with tourists and suits, and all take advantage of the amenities on offer. The area’s confluence of public transportation makes it a cinch to get anywhere in the city, though you don’t have to travel far for the essentials: An Eataly Italian specialty market is a welcome addition to the grocery landscape, and classic restaurants like Delmonico’s and Fraunces Tavern still draw hungry crowds. Here, history butts up against the 21st century—Trinity Church is just steps from the World Trade Center—giving the neighborhood an air that is firmly rooted in the past, but looking toward the future.

Amenities

Not lacking on this front, 130 William offers a spate of spaces catering to the energetic lifestyle of New Yorkers. A spa features a collection of pools, including a thermal pool and cold plunge pool. A basketball court, fitness center, and yoga studio will appeal to the wellness crowd. Additional perks include a private IMAX theater, bicycle storage, and a pet spa.
