Perched on the 65th floor of the 1,050-foot tower designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel, Residence 65 of 53 West 53 is an expansive full-floor home with quietly luxurious staged interiors by Rebecca Robertson. The four-bedroom, four-and-a-half bathroom residence features unobstructed vistas in all directions and ample sunlight that compliments its unique architectural characteristics.

“There are not very many gems like this in New York City,” Robertson tells LX Collection. “We were inspired by Jean Nouvel and Thierry Despont’s strong architecture and stunning interior detailing and wanted to further celebrate those unique features, such as the bold lines of the diagrid. We also chose to highlight the dramatic views of this full-floor residence by making the monumental entertaining area and living room the centerpiece of the home. This area is enveloped in floor-to-ceiling windows that provide gorgeous panoramic views of Central Park and the New York skyline. Our design approach makes the home feel curated, not just decorated, and that its design has evolved over time.”

The 1,400-square-foot great room and expansive eat-in kitchen have unparalleled views over Central Park and the city beyond, while the incomparable primary suite overlooks the glittering skyline of downtown.

Residence 65 boasts direct elevator access and a graciously sized reception hall with oversized walnut entry doors and custom hardware by E.R. Butler & Co, whose work appears throughout the residence. A dining area adjacent to the impressive great room leads into the eat-in kitchen, where custom cabinetry by Molteni and statuary marble countertops compliment Miele and Sub-Zero fixtures.

The corner primary suite boasts a walk-in closet and spacious dressing room as well as an en suite whose Noir St. Laurent marble and Peruvian golden travertine feature walls and sculptural mirrors reference the building’s neighbor, the Museum of Modern Art. A den, office, three secondary bedrooms, and three-and-a-half bathrooms complete this extraordinary home.

The Neighborhood

Midtown has become one of New York’s premier neighborhoods for luxury living, thanks in no small part to its many world-class cultural institutions like the Museum of Modern Art, Michelin star restaurants including Le Bernardin and Gabriel Kreuther, and classic retail experiences like Saks Fifth Avenue and Bergdorf Goodman. Despite its proximity to opulence, the neighborhood is still home to New Yorkers of all stripes and plays host to tourists who come to Midtown for the same reasons that it’s an exceptional place to live (and, of course, to take in Times Square.)

Amenities

Residents of 53 West 53 receive the unique amenity of benefactor-level membership to the Museum of Modern Art, from which the building partially rises, upon purchase. The property also gives way to a selection of hotel-like offerings including a sleek wellness center with a 65-foot swimming pool, concierge, and residents’ lounge. The building’s other amenities include a squash court, a screening room and a wine-tasting room.
